Dr. Kamyab Zandi, CEO of TIMEZYX, Participates in Collaborative Ground Segment and ESA Digital Twin Earth Workshop
Lisbon, Portugal – Dr. Kamyab Zandi, CEO of TIMEZYX, recently attended the Collaborative Ground Segment and ESA Digital Twin Earth Workshop, held on March 4th and 5th. The event was organized and hosted by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Portuguese Space Agency, bringing together representatives from the European Space Agency, National Space Agencies of EU member states, and the Canadian Space Agency.
During the workshop, Kamyab Zandi presented on the innovative Satellite-enhanced Structural Digital Twin developed by TIMEZYX. He shared insights on how TIMEZYX leverages satellite data to monitor transport infrastructure under extreme climatic events. Zandi demonstrated how TIMEZYX’s Structural Digital Twins serve as digital assets for bridge operators, optimizing the operation and resilience of their physical assets. A key takeaway from his presentation was the importance of powering Digital Twin models with computational architecture that enables physics-based, data-driven simulations.
The workshop covered several critical topics, including:
- Status and Plans of the ESA EOF Operations: Copernicus Ground Segment and Digital Twin Elements

- Continuation of ESA Support for Collaborative Ground Segment
- CollGS Open Source Availability and Roadmap
- Opportunities with the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem
- Opportunities within DTE
- Evolution of the Sentinel Data Processors and Data Format
- Planning and Support
Additionally, the event highlighted upcoming developments such as:
- Destination Earth (DestinE): An ambitious initiative by the European Union to create a digital twin of Earth, aimed at monitoring natural and human activities, anticipating extreme events, and adapting policies to climate-related challenges.
- Earth Observation Processing Framework (EOPF) Data Format (Zarr): ESA’s cloud-native, interoperable solution designed to future-proof data from Copernicus Sentinel missions, enabling scalable processing and seamless integration with modern data science frameworks.
- SpatioTemporal Asset Catalog (STAC): A specification that standardizes the indexing and sharing of geospatial data, making it easier to search, access, and utilize large datasets of earth observation data.
- Copernicus Horizon 2035: This initiative outlines the long-term vision for Copernicus, focusing on sustainability, resilience, and the integration of digital technologies to address future environmental challenges.
TIMEZYX is proud to contribute to these groundbreaking discussions and initiatives, reinforcing our commitment to leveraging advanced satellite technology for infrastructure resilience and environmental sustainability.
